Progress!

The end to abstinence-only education is here:
There was a lot of good news packed into the 2010 Omnibus Appropriations bill which was passed by Congress over the weekend. For the first time ever, the appropriations bill eliminated all funding for abstinence-only sex education programs in favor of evidence-based programs that focus on preventing unintended pregnancy.

Now don't you religious-y folks get all hot and bothered about this. Just because we'll be actually informing our children with facts doesn't mean they're all going to turn into whore(because y'know boys will be boys right?). I grew up with a progressive sex education and while it didn't quite give me any ideas(anyone I went to middle/high school with me knows who was teaching health class in those days), but it did teach me the seriousness in protecting yourself and any sexual partner from disease and unwanted consequences. No education is foolproof, but teaching our children the truth instead of hiding it has proven time and time again to lead toward progress.
