Delays?

This morning:
At 8:30 this morning, Senator Obama called Senator McCain to ask him if he would join in issuing a joint statement outlining their shared principles and conditions for the Treasury proposal and urging Congress and the White House to act in a bipartisan manner to pass such a proposal.  At 2:30 this afternoon, Senator McCain returned Senator Obama’s call and agreed to join him in issuing such a statement.  The two campaigns are currently working together on the details.
This afternoon:
Republican John McCain says he's directing his staff to work with Barack Obama's campaign and the debate commission to delay Friday's debate because of the economic crisis. In a statement, McCain says he will stop campaigning after addressing former President Bill Clinton's Global Initiative session on Thursday and return to Washington to focus on the nation's financial problems.

Can you guess which is a serious attempt and which is just a stunt?  Personally I think a debate shouldn't really eat up so much time.

UPDATE:Obama responds that it can chew gum and walk at the same time... or more officially:  ""The debate is on," a senior Obama campaign official told ABC News."McCain's campaign responds that such activity could cause cancer, and he should know, he's walked that road a few times.
