Sinclair and the October Surprise

This is going to be a mishmash, but there's not too much that I have time to talk about. More are dead in Iraq. Sistani wants an independant state even if the elected leader is a fundamentalist(ever wonder why the word 'mental' is in the middle). The Sinclair broadcasting organization is being blasted for it's attempt to release an anti-Kerry documentary to combat "Going Upriver" the pro Kerry documentary that came out earlier in the month. The bottom line with that in my opinion is that it is unfair to release such partisan attacks into mainstream media just before an election. Especially since much of the films is criticized by fact checkers. Finally everyone seems to be talking about the empty possibility of an October surprise. Will Bin Laden be caught? How about Zarquawi? Any ideas on a parachute landing in Baghdad by G.W. himself? What about a crazy terror threat alert? Well I doubt we'll be able to put a finger on it too early, but there will probably be something. Some attempt to either make Bush more heroic, or an attempt to scare more votes with the overwhelming fear of an attack on US soil. My prediction... nothing will happen. The Rovians are too smart in my opinion. The only attempt will be last minute, like a day before thing, a November surprise if you will. My hope is that the only surprise will be a Kerry victory. I'll say one thing as we get closer to the date, if we consider the possibility of a close election, it's going to smack someone in the face. Either the dems will be accused of not pushing the issue more or the repubs will finally get their just desserts for sitting on a failing voting system and not fixing it in four years. Somehow, I think the latter is unlikely. But it should be fair and if it isn't, I say revolt.
One more thing for ammo against those few people you just can't seem to convince. Think about the prospects of these candidates. Kerry is working toward a future as the President and Edwards is looking to follow. So you've got one set of folks intent on improving things to get back into office and then on the other side... Cheney has expressed no intention of seeking the office of President. Bush would be done after this term, so the other choice is two guys that have no reason to make things better except to stroke their egos in the history books and so far that ain't going to be the chapter heading. It'll probably be more like "Quagmire II" or "The Failures of the Bush Doctrine".
