Well at least on one thing. This whole missile shield bullshit plan is something Reagan tried to push with his Star Wars plan in the eighties. Do we need a missile defense system? Well we wouldn't if we actually stood by the anti-proliferation treaties we signed years ago.
The thing is, we expect the rest of the world to support us whole heartedly when we decide to create a weapon that will potentially allow for powerful missile technology to be implemented not just surrounding the U.S., but its foreign base structures as well. This is not only such a huge overkill in defense, it's offensive to those nations that have just as much at stake(like Russia) but realize that diplomacy really is the best weapon against rivals.
