Gitmo

Check out the difference:

Legal victory for Gitmo detainees

(CNN) -- Military judges at the U.S. prison camp at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, threw out war crimes charges against an aide to al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden and against a Canadian accused of killing a U.S. soldier.

In both cases on Monday, the military judges dismissed the charges based on a lack of jurisdiction.

White House disagrees with Gitmo trial ruling

MSNBC-- PRAGUE, Czech Republic - The White House on Tuesday said it disagreed with rulings by U.S. military judges to drop all war crimes charges against two Guantanamo prisoners facing trial, and that the Defense Department was considering whether to appeal.

“We don’t agree with the ruling on the military commissions,” White House spokesman Tony Fratto told reporters in Prague where President Bush is meeting with leaders of the Czech Republic.

Two major media outlets, two different approaches to the story. The first one just tells you what happened. The second reminds you of what the White House thinks. Well, you know what, that's an afterthought, not the headline. Not that I'm praising CNN here, but to write an article about two Gitmo prisoners being dismissed by the war tribunal that was set up by the President and focus first on Bush's disagreement with the ruling is just pandering to the lord of the loaves. Two Gitmo prisoners were released. Why? Lack of proper jurisdiction. Perhaps if the President had allowed these captives ordinary due process, we could've found out if they were actually guilty of their allegations. Not any more.

Oh ummm it's in Portuguese though, so you might want to use google translator or something. If you speak spanish, you can get close, but Portuguese has some significant variation.
