Hilarious

Yglesias:

Weird moments in Republican self-deception:

Giuliani said the only thing worse than an American-led military offensive against Iran would be Iran having nuclear weapons, which he called "the worst nightmare'' of the Cold War. The way to stop Iran, he said, was resolute American leadership facing down the Iranian president.

"He has to look at an American president, and he has to see Ronald Reagan,'' Giuliani said.

Is that the version of Ronald Reagan who sold the Iranians weapons, or it is the version that sought to check Iranian power by sending Don Rumsfeld to Baghdad to assure Saddam Hussein that the United States didn't really mind if he used poison gas to attack the Kurdish civilian population?

On that note, I agree with atrios too, there has been way too much Reagan worship in the GOP and it's starting to get really dated. I'm not yet 30, but I remember some of the Reagan years during my childhood. I don't remember that being all that great of a time, but just like Atrios points out, in a few years college kids are going to need an explanation of the Lewinsky scandal, because they won't remember it, let alone the "Great Days of the Gipper". If you ask most people today that are my age or above to select a decade in which things were going really well for them, I have little doubt the norm would be the 90s. Sure I can say that was my "prime" years since I was just becoming a young adult in those years, still the economy, the job scene, everything seemed way better than the 80s or this decade.
