Rice criticizes Chavez on new mandate
My opinion on this is simple. I agree with Chavez. He's trying to nationalize the nations oil resources as well as everything in Venezuela. Rice's problem is merely one of different social concepts. Rice's criticisms show an air of mention about human rights and other issues, but her real problem is with the oil. Face it, if Chavez nationalizes the oil industry(the United States' 4th largest exporter of oil) it will affect firms such as Chevron, Exxon Mobil, Conoco Phillips, Statoil and BP Plc. Not necessarily in a bad way though. The only real difference between nationalized resources and corporate owned resources is that the nation of Venezuela would reap the benefits of the oil AND they would be responsible for commodity costs and trading standards. Rice's criticism can only stem from concerns that these corporations will no longer have the price control they've retained over the years. I say, Venezuelan control of this oil resource is much better than OPEC.
Rice is just afraid of socialism because corporations can't control it. A better approach would be to work with this new social order and befriend Chavez diplomatically. That won't happen because Chavez thinks the U.S. is an imperialist state set on conquering the world. If we weren't in the midst of a foolish war and about to start another one, I could disagree. As it stands, I know exactly where he's coming from.
