36. Injury to the enlightened

When there is injury to the enlightened, it is beneficial to be steadfast and true in distress.

Image: Light going into the ground symbolizes injury to the enlightened. In dealing with their masses, cultured people are deliberately unobtrusive, yet illuminated.


After reading this I couldn't help but think how this doesn't apply to Richie at all. But the I Ching is about the future and change. Here Richie is not the enlightened one, but the light itself. His radiance was not unobtrusive in the least and when dealing with the masses Richie was bright and exuberant. That light has retreated into the ground, but his memory will always warm my heart.
