American Prospect
This Presidential interview with friendly columnists has gotten almost no attention outside the conservative blogosphere, but it's nonetheless remarkable. You can listen to it here, and there's a transcript here. At one point, Bush said:
"My attitude about our – look, I'm into campaigning out there: People want to know, can you win? That's what they want to know. I mean, there's – look, there's some 25 percent or so that want us to get out, shouldn't have been out there in the first place – and that's fine. They're wrong. But you can understand why they feel that way. They just don't believe in war, and – at any cost. I believe when you get attacked and somebody declares war on you, you fight back. And that's what we're doing."
Here is today's new Gallup poll. It asks:
Suppose the Democrats win control of both houses of Congress in this year's elections and try to do each of the following after they take control in January. Please say whether you would approve or disapprove of that action.
Set a time-table for withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq: Approve: 63%, Disapprove: 34%
Can you spot the spin? 25% don't believe in war? When you get attacked and somebody declares war on you, you fight back? When did Iraq declare war on us? Oh wait, when did they attack us?
