Calm Down

From the Washington Post:
Roadway Deaths Rise to Highest Level in 15 Years

It makes me wonder what the deal is with drivers these days. People want to blame cell phones and people want to blame old people and people want to blame everything but what the real problem here is. People have to stop driving like they are the only thing on the road and where they are going is more important then anything else. This morning driving in, I was switching lanes since the truck in front of me was going slower than the speed limit and well the passing lane was open. So I flip on my turn signal and start to merge over and this dude from out of nowhere almost runs me over. Why? Well as best I could tell, he noticed me signaling and figured he'd better speed up so I didn't get in his way. Hello? Isn't there such a thing as courtesy anymore? The truth is there isn't. People don't pay attention when driving and they certainly don't respect other drivers. So more people are being run over now, I'm not surprised. But we need to come to a conclusion here, it's everyone's fault. Sure I like to call myself a decent driver and I will attest that for the most part I'm as courteous as I can be, but the average situation on the road these days is like stepping into the middle of some sci-fi movie where the world is run by robotic vehicles intent on destroying anything in their path. My advice, you don't even have to slow down, just try to pay attention and not be so damned selfish. If you really needed to get there that fast, you should've left earlier. If you couldn't leave earlier, then attempting to work yourself into a speed warp is not a solution to the problem. It's the cause of another problem.
