Renhquist and Roberts
I just wanted to comment on this briefly so that the topic is out there. Bush wants Roberts to now be upgraded to Chief Justice nominee now that the seat is open. It's also fairly obvious that he wants Gonzalez to be his second nominee. Neb mentioned a problem with people that don't have the experience to do the job and these two make a prime example. Roberts has only been a judge for 2 years. That's pretty slim experience for the main policy director of the highest court in the land. Gonzalez isn't even a judge, so what business does he have stepping into that court at all? Well the answer is neither of them deserve the nomination or the position, but that's why the Senate has the right to hearings. If our Congressional body cares at all for the country or their position in it, these men must not be accepted by the hearings. If they are, then we have no choice but to remove this government entirely. We've reached a point where revolution seems liked a pipe dream, but what's sad is that it's a dream at all. Unless our representatives concern themselves with the wants of their constituency and moreso unless they act with good sense and reason, they deserve no respect as a legislative body. We all talk about government inefficiency and certainly Katrina is an example of it, but let's be frank about the future and understand that the only body of government given the ability to prevent gross misconduct by the legislative and executive branches is the Supreme Court of the United States. It's not about activist judges or conservative viewpoints, it's about a process that was created and has worked for the last 200 years. There is no reason for cronyism to take over when the life of the country is on the line. How could you respect a decision from a judge that hasn't worn robes for even five years over an appelate court with a judge of 20 years? The highest court in the land should be that. And if the administration won't put the best and brightest in those positions and give authority to those with the responsibility and experience to hold those positions, then impeachment is meager compared to what's deserved.
